Dear Members,
SIOP leadership have been investigating ways to enhance the professionalism of I-O Psychology. Presently, there is not a distinct and peer-reviewed credential for those in the I-O community. The need for a credential in I-O psychology has been an ongoing discussion for years, and we believe a credential can address branding issues separately from any considerations about program accreditation or licensure. We have been working with the Psychology Credential Center (PCC) on their development of a credential program that would:
Enhance the branding of I-O psychology
Allow I-Os the ability to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through a sound program
Elevate the visibility to the public as a recognized and distinct profession under psychology
Increase employer confidence in selecting those who distinguish themselves through proper training and demonstrated skills
Foster consumer trust by verifying that certified professionals have met professional industry standards
The PCC is currently preparing a certification program with a launch of their program in 2026. They have completed a Job Task Analysis (JTA) with the next step to survey the I-O community. We encourage all I-Os to complete the survey that will be sent via a separate email later this week. The PCC is also looking for volunteers to assist with various aspects of development, including item writing, item review, and final exam form review.
